OKLAHOMA! was Rodger's and
Hammerstein's first collaboration and
in many ways, their most innovative, having
set the standards and established the
rules of musical theatre still being followed
today. Set in Western Indian Territory
just after the turn of the century, the
high spirited rivalry between the local
farmers and cowboys provides the background
against which Curly, a cowboy, and Laurey,
a farm girl, play out their love story.
Along for the ride are the great characters
of Aunt Eller, Ado Annie, and Will Parker.
OKLAHOMA! brings with it some wonderfully
classic songs of the theater including
"People Will Say We're In Love", "Oh,
What A Beautiful Mornin'", and "The Farmer
and The Cowman." |
