Set in New York City in the 1960s, the story centers on young Chuck Baxter, eager to succeed in the corporate workplace. The senior executives start to notice Chuck, but for the wrong reason: his nearby Manhattan apartment is the perfect spot for their trysts. As Chuck advances, his office romance with Fran Kubelik begins to blossom, and the two stories eventually collide.
